Description:  The Workshop 'Neural Bases of Social Cognition' innovates by bringing together researchers from complementary areas of the Humanities and Neuroscience, in an effort to unify discourses that can provide a better understanding of issues crucial to current science. Some of the important questions that will be addressed are: (i) the neural basis of empathy, the faculty that underlies our moral social behavior (ii) the neural bases of those cognitive and semantic abilities that engender social organization and allow the understanding of individual roles in society.

Objectives:  The Workshop provides the participants with a broad overview of how Philosophy can be integrated with Neuroscience. It also provides a forum for discussing academic research carried out by distinct groups in Brazil and Argentina, and allows the presentation and discussion of philosophical theories in the light of some empirical results of recent neuroscientific research. The multidisciplinary dialogue aims to spark research that might in the future be developed in the Laboratory of Experimental Philosophy and Cognition Studies of UNISINOS, and will contribute towards reconciling the advances of the empirical sciences with traditional philosophical theories, investigating the relationship between mind, brain and human social behavior.
